I thought I'd jump back on this bandwagon. Actually, I was in the grocery store this morning and saw Kate Gosselin staring at me from the cover of a magazine. She said she feels like a failure. And I looked at her picture, and said, out loud, "I know what you mean." June wasn't particularly good. Before people go off connecting imaginary dots, I'm still madly in love with my husband and he's not going anywhere. It's just been a bad month. And I'm not feeling very successful. So, I thought I'd walk away from this blog, because I pretty much don't want to blog bad stuff. Some of my bad is no one else's business. And some of it is just plain yucky and I don't think anyone would care to read it--unless you're someone who enjoys yuck. Life's messy. So, do you blog it or not? I remember once debating about whether to link to a song that I was afraid would bother some people. A friend told me that if my style was personal essays, I couldn't be afraid to be authentic. Fair enough. I thought about changing my "style." I can't. So now you know. If I'm not blogging much, it must be ycky around here. On the other hand, it was nice to go back and read through the archives and see how non-yucky and downright lovely so many of our days have been. Seems like a good reason to keep looking for silver linings and chasing rainbows. On to the successes:
1
After Christian injured himself at his lifeguarding job and we went to the ER for stitches, I caught a pharmaceutical mistake and then recognized some complications. My pediatrician is sure we headed off a major infection.
2
After my husband complimented my clothes, I wore the same "outfit" two days straight. I was wearing said outfit when we went to the ER. The nurse looked at Christian and then looked at me and then asked whether his mother knew he was in the hospital. She was astonished to learn I am his mother:-). Not sure if that's a success, but I felt twenty years younger and way more energetic.
(Note to Rebecca: It was that classic outfit--hoodie and jeans)
3
I
lost five pounds. Stress will do that to you.
What are your successes this week?
This is a great exercise in holding ourselves accountable and patting
ourselves on the backs. Mothering and homemaking don't have built in
performance reviews and bonuses. The internet can be a source of
support and encouragement. Let's encourage one another in our small
successes.I'm very late to the party, but you can still share too at Faith and Family Live!
